The Rotary Club of Flin Flon donated $7,000 to the Flin Flon Fire Dept to purchase an Oceanid Water rescue raft that was used for an ice rescue that saved the lives of two people who had gone through the ice on a lake in town this fall. The Fire Chief reported to the club that this piece of equipment was likely the key reason that these two individuals were able to survive their cold water immersion experience.

The Club also pays for the yearly rental of an apartment at “Port in the Storm”. Port in the Storm permits northern residents who need to have extended medical stays in Winnipeg, with accommodation close to the hospital at an affordable price while they support seriously ill family members. We have received a great deal of positive feedback from northern residents who have used the facility during cancer treatments or medical emergencies.

“A Port in the Storm” is a safe-haven for rural and northern adults living in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. Our goal is to reduce the financial burden of serious illness on those who must travel to and remain in Winnipeg to receive medical care. It is 'a place to call home'.
