The Rotarians at the Fort Qu’Appelle Rotary Club, chartered in 1939, currently consists of five hard-working, energetic members. Its focus is to work on developing a relationship with the indigenous peoples in their area.
The club promotes its public image in the community by using the Rotary message board set up at the Co-op store in 2017 and by taking part in the local parade plus serving a pancake breakfast on Canada Day.
Community activities include providing a Christmas Dinner for seniors who live alone, scholarships to local students in Grade 10 and Grade 12, and support for youth through exchanges and summer leadership camps.
The club has provided contributions towards a wheelchair for the All Nations Healing Hospital, a van for people with disabilities, equipment for disabled skiers and construction of the “Fort”.
Internationally, the club fundraises for polio eradication and makes donations to the ShelterBox program. Locally, the members built a skateboard park four years ago and continue to provide “hands-on” maintenance of the grass, flags and signage at an entrance to Fort Qu’Appelle.
