Air Canada CentreAt its September meeting the Rotary International Board of Directors tentatively approved Toronto, Canada as the site for it 2018  International Convention.

Twelve cities originally put in bids for the 2018 Convention. Toronto was short listed with four other cities. A team of five, then visited each city to review their proposals.

The inspection team consisted of L. J. Williams, International Meetings Manager, Konda Sterrett, R.I. Director Barry Matheson, Hugh Gregory, and New Orleans convention chair Ron Burton.

Michael CookseyAccording the the Inspection team chair L.J. Mathews, District 7070 and the Toronto Club put together an "amazing package" and "really had their act together". "They obviously learned from their failed bid in 2010 when they lost to Montreal," Mathews added. Their bid was "about as perfect as they come," he said.

The bid was lead by Rotarian Michael Cooksey, Past District Governor of District 7070 (2000-2001) and a member of the Scarborough Club with the assistance of HOC member Michelle Guy. Cooksey will chair the 2018 Convention and both will attend the forthcoming "annual idea sharing meeting".

The venues for the convention will be the Air Canada Centre and Metro Convention Centre.
