Well, it’s been a busy two weeks since Fran and I started our new role. We started off by visiting the last event for the Rotary Exchange students at Camp Whitney. It was great to see that they all enjoyed their final days together. Needless to say there were a few tears shed.

On July 10th , we attended a nice BBQ with our home club after a short Executive meeting. How do you talk to your own club as a Governor? The Thompson Club was next on July 12th. There we assisted with the induction of two new members. The board meeting was productive as our discussion lead to some beneficial ideas for all of us. An unexpected question came up-“What exactly is a make-up and how do you qualify?”  Do you and your club have the answer? Surprisingly there will be different opinions.

My main objective was to pass along the words of our new President and our theme of Peace through Service. The strongest request was to ask the members to continue the fight to eradicate Polio.

A couple of unique ideas have come out for Polio funding. They actually came from the partners and friends of Rotarians. The desk manager at the hotel where we hold our meeting has started collecting “Pennies for Polio”. There’s a big sign on the billboard and he has already gotten a five gallon pail full!

One of the partners had a “Partner’s Lunch” and raised over two hundred dollars. Another partner may be collecting cheques for $60.00 which is the cost of serum for 100 doses.

Thompson’s Sgt. of Arms made fines and happy bucks go to Polio (no coins-just paper!

Congratulations on a job well done!

We have been working with our Zone rep on Future Vision.  There have been forty four clubs sign up two members each for this mandatory training. Our transition team and training team have been working hard to gear up for this major change and plan to have the clubs ready to sign the MOUs before the New Year.

We have a new Public Relations Chair. Allen Oruski has agreed to look after our District PR grant from RI. The plan is to use CTV as much as possible to promote Rotary. Allen will be contacting the clubs to request participation.  He is also looking for “special events”.  If there are any special days or times you think Allen can include in his plan, please let us know.  (Allen Oruski <aoruski@sasktel.net)

World Peace Partners wants everyone to remember that September 21th is “International Day of Peace

Watch for further information on concerts coming up around that day. Rotarians will get special treatment!

And great news on the Museum – they are getting a seventy million dollar package. That will help them “git er done”!!

While we were at the International Conference we met with the leaders of the Rotary Leadership Institute.  District 5550 is now a member. We will be training moderators on November 2 in Russell. Once the moderators have qualified session times will be considered.

Currently, although it has not been finalized, the thought is to have RLI sessions in the same locations as our District Assemblies.  If you are interested in becoming a facilitator for RLI please let Joanne Misner, Darren Williams, or Peter Neufeldt know. (see contact information in the article on the Rotary Leadership Institute elsewhere in this issue.)  Right now we have three participants from Manitoba and NW Ontario and two from Saskatchewan. We do need persons from Saskatchewan.

We also want to thank the Assistant DGs and Club Presidents who have responded with their Club Planning Guide and arrangements and times for our visit schedule.

Have a great summer and we will see you soon.
