Polio dropAs I just mentioned after reading the article “Global anti-polio drive stumbles on funds shortfall, 94 million kids vulnerable” from The Times of India, the First Lady (see article on the side column) -- Fran—has come up with a plan to help. We have discussed this with a few members and want to give it a try. Although the Zone 24 has a Polio cookbook out, we want to make our own.

We want to make a District Cookbook with all proceeds going to polio eradication. The plan is illustrated below. We would like all clubs to participate and make this a huge success.

The cover will show Polio and Rotary symbols

First few pages will- describe Rotary involvement and polio eradication, a note from the Governor, description of our District, and perhaps a note from RI President, and World Health Organization.

A brief description of our Youth Programs

Approximately   (1200 recipes) 500 pages with conversion chart

Each Club (Rotoract and Interact clubs included) (Inner Wheel welcome) will have one full page to use as they see fit

-it must have Club Name, meeting time and location, website and/or some type of contact information

-the balance of the page may contain club history or a presold sponsor ad

-this page will cost each club $500.00 (logically this would be gained by selling the ad)

-it wouldn’t hurt to submit more than one ad in case another club needs help with their $500.

-$500.00 each will cover printing costs. ( Approximately $24,000 for 2000 copies) If few can sell all of them at $20.00 each, we will realize a profit of about $40,000.

Our Goal is to have this printed and ready for delivery to PETS

-if we are successful, we will offer this to Zone and other Districts

Each Club is asked to submit:

-minimum 30 recipes in a mixed category of: Main dishes, Soups and Salads, Veggies and Side Dishes, Appetizers, Desserts and treats, Snacks, and Wild Things (wild meats, fish, and crazy foods-like – Grilled Peanut Butter and onion sammies)

Important- your name and Rotary club (on recipe)

                                -use the submission sheet attached

-full page- club description and guaranteed ad  ($500.00)

                                - one piece of Rotary Trivia or quote

-suggestions for front and rear page

                -any other suggestions

-number of books your club will order at no charge (no freight if delivered at PETS)

-we ask all clubs to consider a sales program at a mall or similar venue

-keep in mind that the more we order on first printing, the cheaper they will be!

Send this either through email to FRAN HUBBS or via regular mail to:

We feel strongly that this cookbook will sell well due to the nature of its cause, the fact that it will be a Rotary keepsake, and of course; because the contents will be yours!

Remember- “Peace through Service” is what we all do
