The Rotary Club of Winnipeg is once again sponsoring the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA). They have done so in an almost uninterrupted fashion since the first MUNA was held on April 26 and 27, 1957.  The 56th Assembly will take place May 1-3, 2014 and we welcome delegates from all District 5550 clubs.

MUNA is a learning simulation of the United Nations General Assembly in its structure and proceedings.  Debates in MUNA, the committee structure, rules of procedure, and the general decorum of delegates are designed to approximate the UN General Assembly.

By learning about the working of the UN General Assembly, MUNA helps high school students to develop an understanding of foreign affairs and may even spark the interest of some students to pursue careers in government service, economic development, foreign trade, and diplomacy.  Former MUNA participants are currently active in public life in both Canada and the United States.

Participation in MUNA is open to students in Grades 10 – 12.  Delegations are made up of two students accompanied by a counselor.  These delegations are normally sponsored by local Rotary Clubs.  However, high schools can apply directly for participation subject to the payment of required fees.  Currently, participants come from Manitoba schools, North Western Ontario, Saskatchewan, North and South Dakota, Minnesota and North Carolina.

Your Club is invited and encouraged to participate in MUNA by sponsoring one or more delegations to the 2014 MUNA.  Please contact schools in your area and assign counselors from your membership if there are none available at the schools

Detailed information and applications are posted on our Website: http://www.winnipegmuna.ca/about/Enquiries about MUNA may be sent to elly@winnipegmuna.ca and he will respond promptly.  Applications may be submitted online or by mail any time between November 15, 2013 and April 1, 2014.

We look forward to welcoming your delegations at the 56th Model United Nations Assembly to be held at the Canadian Mennonite University, in Winnipeg, on May 1.2, and 3, 2014
